About

Kia ora! We’re so glad you’re here.

This is a collaboration project between CAYAD (Tāmaki Makaurau), YouthLaw NZ, and Gender Minorities Aotearoa, with support from Te Puna Whakaiti Pāmamae Kai Whakapiri The New Zealand Drug Foundation.

Together, we’ve created this website to talk and learn about the connections between cannabis and our trans and non-binary whānau. We’re collecting stories from the community and providing info to help you navigate cannabis as a trans or non-binary person.

Trans and non-binary people in Aotearoa use cannabis more often than the general population. The 2022 Counting Ourselves study of trans and non-binary people found that 43% of respondents used cannabis in the last 12 months. That’s almost three times higher than the general population - and it’s on the rise.

We’re currently running a listening campaign to gather community stories, perspectives, and experiences. By listening first, we aim to provide genuinely useful information that supports trans people to navigate cannabis safely. Over time, we hope to spark conversation, raise awareness, and build a resource hub our community can access and explore.

Over the coming months we’ll be sharing our communities’ real stories, resources, and other information. If you’d like updates on this project, sign up for emails below.
